Measuring Supplier Quality

Thirty-five manufacturing leaders in Supply Chain, Quality, and selected Network members participated in this survey conducted from March 2 to April 27.

Key Findings

  • Majority use the risk of poor quality to assess suppliers – 73% of companies use the risk of poor quality to inform supplier quality management. 
    • 82% use self-assessment surveys prior to the first visit.
  • Over a third developed in-house systems – 38% of companies reported developing in-house systems to collect supplier data. 
  • Scorecards are shared responsibility for most – 70% of companies have more than one function managing their scorecard, and a majority share responsibility between quality and procurement functions.
  • The majority have some level of automation for scorecard data – 4 in 5 companies reported using semi-automated or fully automated methods to collect scorecard data.
