Maria Alejandra (Jana) del-Cerro advises clients on US regulation of outbound trade, including US export controls. Jana works with clients across a broad range of industries, from traditional aerospace and defense manufacturers and multi-national software companies to start-ups in the technology sector. She regularly represents them before the Department of State, Commerce, and Treasury in response to government inquiries, internal reviews, compliance investigations, and voluntary disclosures.

Jana previously served as a senior regulatory analyst in the Regulatory and Multilateral Affairs Division of the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls' (DDTC) policy office. She works with US and non-US clients on all aspects of export compliance counseling, developing compliance programs, completing commodity jurisdiction and classification analysis, conducting export trainings, and performing merger and acquisition due diligence and coordinating related regulatory submissions.

Kari Heerman is a senior fellow and director of Trade and Economic Statecraft at the Brookings Institution. Previously, Dr. Heerman was acting chief economist in the Office of the Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of State. In that role, she led the office’s team in its mission of providing advice and analysis on complex, emerging issues at the intersection of economics and foreign policy; offering tools to advance economic diplomacy; and serving as a liaison to technical experts in economics across academia, industry, partner governments, and other institutions. Prior to joining the State Department, Dr. Heerman was a deputy assistant United States trade representative in the Office of Trade Policy and Economics at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

Gaelle Hulpusch, CAMS, brings over 14 years of experience at Dow Jones, encompassing a range of leadership and individual contributor roles. She began her career conducting research in the field of anti-money laundering with a focus on Dutch-speaking jurisdictions and African countries. She then transitioned into various leadership roles focused on name screening, where she developed extensive expertise in product, data and customer relations. Currently, she guides the global strategic direction of Trade Compliance product development at Dow Jones. This involves deeply understanding customer needs and market demands to create and enhance products that directly assist clients in addressing their specific Trade Compliance challenges.

Barbara Keleman

Barbara works for Dragonfly Intelligence (a UK-based geopolitical advisory) but moved to Singapore 1.5 year ago, where she is head of their Asia office. Dragonfly Intelligence advises clients how to anticipate and prepare for major geopolitical and security trends.

Barbara Kelemen studied in China (Peking University) and London (LSE), earning a double degree in International History. She has specialized in international security and relations, focusing primarily on China and its relations with the Middle East. After graduating, Barbara joined MERICS but then decided to join the private intelligence sector, where she has remained.
